Is there an inexpensive wind turbine?
Is there an inexpensive wind turbine. The only one I am seeing is this air-x thing which only produces 400 watts at 28 mph winds. AND ITS 500$!!!! Is there a turbine that is around the 500$ range that produces enough power to power the whole house???? Or is there another alternative????
solar is probably out of the question as it is so expensive.

all turbines are hella expensive…
Power a whole house for $500?
A house typically uses about 10 KW at peaks.
If there’s a 400W. unit selling at $500 what do you think?
(The big expense in any ‘occasional source’ system comes
in the required storage capacity.)
Yes, there is an inexpensive wind turbine … the kind you build yourself. There are a number of different plans you can buy that will help you through the process step by step. The most popular guide available is called Earth4Energy and it explains how to assemble the components and build a 1,000 watt wind turbine for as little as $200. To achieve this output, they recommend blades about 8 feet in diameter and an average wind speed of at least 20 miles per hour. This much better value than any product you can purchase.
To answer your second question, no. There is no turbine available in the $500 range that will power the average house. The Earth4Energy approach is to build multiple turbines and supplement them with solar panels (the guide also includes instructions on how to build your own solar power system) if your goal is to power the whole house. The number of wind turbines/solar panels required for your situation will depend on your electricity needs, the average wind speeds in your area and the amount of sun if you plan to supplement with solar panels.
The other alternative could very well be solar power. Earth4Energy promises to get you up and running with a simple solar power system for less than $200 as well. I’m not sure of the specs on the solar system, but they claim it can pay for itself in a matter of weeks. Sounds better than the decades you have to wait for payback for most solar panels.
